It is not news that technology is driving innovation across many different fields. Especially as COVID-19 forced most of us to remain in our homes, it is no surprise that technology and fitness are becoming increasingly intertwined. There is a high demand nowadays for knowledge; people want to be able to track better, have more personalized data, and use the most advanced technology for prime optimization. We have done extensive research into 4 different fitness and performance realms that technology is transforming and have provided links to the most advanced products in the field. Let’s get to optimizing!
#1 - Tracking and Measuring Progress and Performance
We have an entire newsletter on wearable biometric devices that goes into depth on how to biohack performance through tracking devices. Wearables are becoming more accurate and advanced and are proven to help people remain on track (in one study, 93% of physicians believe apps help people remain on track with goals). Here are two different wearables that specialize in different aspects of fitness. By assessing your fitness priorities you can help determine which is best for you.
Pros: can wear it multiple ways, screenless (could be a con for many), tracks recovery, 4-5 day battery life
Cons: doesn’t track steps/active minutes, not great for non-cardio, expensive monthly subscription
Pros: easy to read and beautiful interface, reliable fitness tracking, weaker recovery advice, 9 days of battery life, can take calls from your phone
Cons: no wireless charging, requires multiple apps on your phone, lacks non-fitness apps
#2 - Decreasing Recovery Time
When it comes to speeding up recovery time, technology is here to help. Infrared light after working out can significantly increase physical fitness results. Studies have shown that infrared therapy during the recovery period can decrease inflammation, decrease pain and soreness, speed muscle recovery, and increase muscle performance. Infrared therapy devices can be quite pricey, but you should look into infrared sauna studios near you. Massage guns and electric stimulation therapy can also aid your recovery timeline.
#3 - Improving Form and Execution of Exercises
There are various ways in which technology is infiltrating the personal trainer sphere. Peloton helped incorporate the feel of a live instructor into your own home environment. This concept has become increasingly more advanced, as brands like Tonal have created an entire tech-based home gym. They use dynamic weight technology that adjusts to your every move and give you access to personal trainers so you can achieve your goals.
Guru Fitness is an AI software that can assess your form during various exercises and provide feedback. A much more affordable option to make sure your form is correct, focus on the muscle you want to work on and avoid injuries.
#4 - Fitness Apps
Fitness AI is a phone app that uses AI to create personalized workouts for you. It has over 5.9 million workouts in its database and even personalizes sets, reps, and weight. It is such an advanced software that prioritizes personalization.
Similar to Guru Fitness, Tempo provides form assistance, personal trainers, and equipment for you to use. Tempo has the benefits of a session with a personal trainer but in the comfort of your own home.
